Rally Overview

General Information

  • COVID-19 GUIDELINES - We follow the guidelines for each state we visit.
  • The Fortunato Rally has complete authority to award or deduct points, change routes or schedules and/or disqualify or remove any participant or teams from the Rally.
  • The Route Guide lists daily Checkpoints and Activities. Each team chooses their own adventure on which roads to use. We fully expect everyone to drive within their limits, the limits of their vehicle and adjust to the conditions of the road.

How Are Winners Determined

  • Winners must be entered in the Competition Class.
  • Overall Rally winners based on points will be determined by combining the totals of Turbo, Checkpoint and Bonus Points over the 3-day Rally.
  • If a team gets a large number of Turbo Points but does not make a best effort to participate in the Rally and search for checkpoints, Rally Organizers reserve the right to disqualify that team from winning.

Participation Requirements

  • All participants will need to sign an indemnity waiver.
  • Open to registered, insured and street legal cars, trucks, vans, etc. Sorry, no motorcycles. Registration and insurance information will be validated at check-in.
  • Team drivers must possess a government issued, current and valid driver's license. Driver's license information will be validated at check-in.
  • Unlicensed participants may ride only.
  • Anyone 17 or younger must present a minor waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Code of Conduct

  • This is NOT a race or in any way a speed contest. Do not drive unsafely, like a jackass or perform any stupid maneuver that would attract the attention of Law Enforcement.
  • Any participant found tampering with another team's vehicle will result in disqualification and removal from the Rally.
  • Any participant found under the influence of alcohol or narcotics is subject to immediate disqualification and removal from the Rally.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct or actions deemed by the Rally Organizers to be unsafe may result in disqualification or removal from the Rally.

Tips

  • Every vehicle should carry a flashlight, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, reserve gas can, road atlas and maybe an AAA card.
  • Consider bringing pen/paper, a charger for your smartphone or tablet, portable GPS for navigation, spare parts and tools, an E-ZPass and possibly ear plugs.
  • Consider bringing a cooler, road trip food and beverages.
  • Dress appropriately for weather conditions and consider packing a blanket.
  • Use of GMRS radios is strongly encouraged for communication between Rally vehicles/teams.

Rules and Scoring

Rules

  • COMPETITION CLASS - Vehicles 1989 or older entered into the Rally to compete against other teams for points and glory in hopes of winning an awesome trophy and bragging rights.
  • OBSERVER CLASS - Vehicles 1990 or newer that are observing the competition class vehicles by actively participating in the Rally route and searching for checkpoints.
  • FINISHERS - All vehicles regardless of class will receive a finisher token...if they finish under their own power.

  • VEHICLE PREPARATION - The Fortunato Rally makes no assurances or guarantees regarding any vehicle’s condition or safety. Teams are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and safe. The Fortunato Rally does not perform any inspection of Rally vehicles.

Scoring Summary

  • REQUIRED EQUIPMENT - Each team will need an internet-connected smartphone or tablet, the Instagram app and a public Instagram account to upload photos for Fortunato Rally scoring.
  • TURBO POINTS - [Competition Class Only] Teams have an opportunity to advance in the overall points standing at the beginning of the Rally with Turbo Points. Turbo points can be earned at Rally Check-in based on vehicle age, interesting options/features, original/unusual powertrain, team score, etc.
  • CHECKPOINTS - Each day’s drive has interesting checkpoints selected by Rally organizers to create a general route for the Rally. Teams have an opportunity to earn points by locating the checkpoints along the route. The Route Guide will contain specific point values for each checkpoint.
  • BONUS POINTS - Teams have an opportunity to earn additional points for completing Challenges and Activities during the Rally and/or for exceptional photos or videos shared on Instagram, improvised repairs, helping other teams, etc.
  • SCORING METHOD - Take a photo of the checkpoint or completed Activity with your car visible and post it to Instagram as described in the Route Guide. In the rare event you can’t get your car in the photo, take a selfie instead. Creative captions and hashtags are encouraged.
  • FINAL NOTE ON SCORING - You get what you get and you don't get upset.
